Proposal Writing and Education Research

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

In a recent survey about cross-site LTER education initiatives there was enthusiasm for exploring education research efforts in two arenas, one concerning recruitment and retention in environmental fields and the other in ecological literacy. In this session we will explore the possibilities of research in both areas, with the goal of developing plans for grant proposals for one or both areas. Some preliminary ideas for addressing focal research questions, based on responses to the survey, include:

Focus Question 1: What factors – including involvement in LTER programs – influence interest (awareness, motivation, self efficacy), engagement and retention in environmental science and related career paths?

Focus Question 2: Do students and teacher in LTER programs become more ecologically literate, and what factors are associated with learning gains?
