This open discussion will address the Announcement of Opportunity anticipated this year from the NSF Division of Ocean Sciences for a new competition to add up to two new coastal marine LTER sites to the U.S. network. The session is open to all with interests in the discussion of priorities for inclusion of new sites (e.g., research excellence, representativeness of biome, opportunities for comparative cross-site analyses, biotic or biogeochemical sensitivities, etc.). We hope to have representatives from diverse LTER sites present, whether marine, freshwater aquatic, or terrestrial, to discuss opinions regarding selection criteria relevant to this competition, for communication to potential proposers and to NSF.
